Fitness Week in Review for Week Ending May 10

Love these end of the week reviews where we can see what articles we talked about this week and catch you up on articles you may have missed. We talked about dehydration, sore muscles and assessing your personal fitness this week. The ball is rolling as we get ready for school to get out and summer fun to get going. We started the week off by asking: Are Your Muscles Sore? There are all types of reasons why muscles are sore from delayed muscle soreness to general aches associated with workouts. We later asked: How Is Your Fitness Going? We … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Taking a Break From All Your Worries

I’ve talked about the need for a mental health day before. Days to de-stress and take a break are very important. They are important for your workout routine to have a down day to let your body recover properly. Remember, when you don’t give your muscles a chance to recover then you run the risk of overtraining and over doing it – this leads to injury, illness and fatigue. Your mind is a lot like your body, if you don’t give it some quality downtime, you’re going to be cranky, irritable and tired. My daughter went to spend the day … Continue reading

Heading off Weeds in Your Yard or Garden

If you hate weeding as much as I do, you might just love Weed Control fabric, offered by Du Pont. There are lots of other brand names and even off name brands available as well at most garden centers and many home improvement stores and super centers. The weed controlling material comes in different sized rolls, which can simply be rolled out to cover large areas or can be cut to size to fit between large plants or flower beds or can be made to fit around trees, planters, or walkways. The material lets water and the other good stuff … Continue reading

Fitness Blog Week in Review May 14 – May 19

I love writing the weeks in review, some weeks I like writing them more than others and this month has definitely been falling more in the less than the more category. But we’re getting caught up and in just one week, the craziness will droop off a bit and I won’t feel like I’m being left behind in my own blogging. So without further ado, let’s talk about this Monday, May 14 Have you ever considered that all you need to do to achieve your goals is to Partner Up: Lose Weight with Your Spouse? Or perhaps that you should … Continue reading

Weeding Away the Pounds

It’s summer here, I know officially that summer hasn’t started yet, but it definitely feels like summer is here with soaring temperatures, hot sun and steamy air. We’ve been very fortunate this spring because we’ve had lots and lots of rain (compared to last year when we had almost no rain and our lake dropped to 16 feet below the normal water level). So what do hot sun, warm temperatures and lots of rain give you? If you answered weeds, then go to the front of the class! Weeds, Weeds, Weeds I spend nearly an hour every other day pulling … Continue reading

How Does Your Garden Clutter?

Just when you think you have finished sorting out the clutter on the inside of your home, you dare to look out towards the yard and what do you see? No homeward angel there; only weeds, poison ivy and dandelions running amok and amid your grasses and shrubs. What to do, what to do? Don’t despair. Reinforcements are coming over the horizon even if it’s too clouded with lawn debris for you to see them. Hang on and read! Poison Ivy This unpleasant little plant with three green leaves and a red stem will not survive a solution mixed from … Continue reading

Weed Your Way To Fitness

I was out in my yard last evening, pulling weeds for about an hour. I have another hour’s worth of weeding to do today; just as likely I’ll spend some time pruning and I was thinking of moving two of the rose bushes from where they are to closer to one of the sprinklers. Who needs gym equipment when you’ve got a pretty active workout waiting for you in the front yard, back yard or both. When we do a lot of lawn and garden maintenance, there are plenty of activities to get our heart moving, to work muscles in … Continue reading
