Super Why – PBS show for preschoolers

Super Why is a new show for preschoolers on PBS that encourages early reading skills. The show is also available to view online or download as a podcast. One of the Super Why show goals is to make reading adventurous and fun. Super Why does that, and more. The characters go on reading adventures, discover the alphabet, practice the magic of spelling, and use the “power to read” to change the story. Each show starts with a social or manners problem preschoolers can relate to, like being considerate, asking before taking something, or how to be a good friend. The … Continue reading

LazyTown

“LazyTown” was created in Iceland by professional athlete Magnus Scheving. LazyTown seems to be in an unseen battle between healthy and unhealthy lifestyles. This show is all about teaching children how to eat healthy and live healthy. Our main heroine is an eight-year-old girl named Stephanie who has pink hair. Sportacus is an adult who is a healthy superhero. Then, there is the evil genius Robbie Rotten whose goal is to turn LazyTown into a lazy town. As far as I know, these are the only humans in the show. The rest of the characters are puppets or computer generated. … Continue reading

Curious George: The Series

Curious George, that lovable, curious little monkey is back — and now he has his own series! “Curious George” is coming to PBS Kids this Labor Day! A few months ago, I wrote about a Curious George DVD — “Curious George Flies a Kite & Other Adventures.” The DVD includes three full episodes from the upcoming show. I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of this show and now I do not have to wait much longer. In less than two weeks, Curious George will be on television. Yes, we all have known Curious George from the books about him and … Continue reading

Dora the Explorer

If you are the parent of a pre-schooler, you most likely know all about “Dora the Explorer.” Dora is a little girls who has a monkey friend named Boots. They go on adventures together, whether it is to find a bird’s home or to make a cake for Dora’s Mami. “Dora the Explorer” is a wonderful way for children to learn deductive reasoning and to pick up on some simple Spanish words. There are always three things that Dora and Boots need to remember in order to complete their task of the day. They ask the audience (your child) for … Continue reading

Oobi

Oobi’s like me, Oobi’s like you. Oobi’s got a lot of big things that he’s gonna do. Uma’s his sis — he’s big, she’s small. Kako is his very best friend, Grampu loves them all. It’s Oobi. Oobi, Oobi, Oobi, Oobi, Oobi. He’s got a lot to see, he’s got a lot to do, and he’s always with you. The first time I saw “Oobi,” NOGGIN’s show about a four-year-old who is a bare-hand puppet, I wasn’t quite sure what to think. I mean, it was a puppet out of a hand and plastic eyes held between the puppeteer’s fingers. … Continue reading

Jack’s Big Music Show

Jack loves to go to his backyard clubhouse and play music. Every day he goes there and meets his friend Mary and his dog Mel. They just jam on their instruments and have a great time. This is the premise for “Jack’s Big Music Show” on NOGGIN network. “Jack’s Big Music Show” is a great way to help encourage a child’s appreciation for music and to help them learn about different musical instruments and styles. The first time I watched “Jack’s Big Music Show” with my daughter probably about six months ago. We had just subscribed to digital cable and … Continue reading

Pinky Dinky Doo

Jim Jinkins, award-winning animated series creator (“Doug,” Playhouse Disney’s “JoJo’s Circus“), has another hit with NOGGIN’s “Pinky Dinky Doo.” This show is about a girl named — you guessed it — Pinky Dinky Doo. And even though her hair is pink and her name is Pinky, she makes it quite clear that she does NOT like the color pink! Along with her brother Tyler and her pet Mr. Guinea Pig, she works through (Doot doo-doo-doo!) dilemmas by telling stories while using her imagination. The beginning of the show always has Pinky and Tyler together. Usually, Tyler will come across a … Continue reading
