5 Advantages to a Christian School

The decision of how to school your child is a very personal one. Many parents feel that the public schools in their area are excellent and gladly send their children there. Other parents feel that homeschooling is the best option for their family. Whether they object to the material being taught in the public school, feel the quality of the school is inferior, or simply want to be with their children, home schooling is a wonderful blessing for many parents. If a parent is uncomfortable with the public school, but also lacks the time or the desire to homeschool, Christian … Continue reading

Christian Bale Roughed Up in China

Actor Christian Bale was in Beijing, China this week to promote his latest film, “The Flowers of War.” The film, by Director Zhang Yimou, is about an American priest that sheltered prostitutes and female students during a 1937 Japanese invasion. While there, Bale decided to go see Chen Guangcheng, an attorney and proponent of human rights. The forty-year-old Chen, who is blind, was under house arrest for six months in 2005-2006 after talking to Time magazine about forced abortions performed in the Shandong Province of China. In 2006, he was arrested for destruction of property and disrupting traffic by assembling … Continue reading

We Choose Virtues is dedicated to instilling children with godly character. With whimsical artwork and an engaging style children easily learn the value of displaying virtue. The program fits nicely into a homeschool, school or church environment. If … Continue reading

Does Kate Middleton Have Jewish Heritage?

The internet is an excellent place for rumors, misunderstood facts, and flat out lies to spread exponentially. There have been some people questioning whether or not Kate Middleton had Jewish heritage. How much can you really determine from the surnames of a person’s ancestors? Kate Middleton is the woman whom Prince William married in a huge wedding ceremony earlier this year. She was a commoner, and her family didn’t have a coat of arms until shortly before the Royal Wedding was scheduled. After Prince William and Kate Middleton got married, the couple was given several new titles. She became Her … Continue reading

If your family thinks vegetables are bland and boring I suggest this recipe will help them get over this attitude. Mick is a big fan of meat and once would not have considered anything meatless a meal but he loved this. An advantage of this recipe is that it is wheat and gluten free as well as dairy free. Hint Don’t just cook up enough for one meal cook a huge pot of it and freeze the rest for quick meals. Vegetable Tagine Ingredients 1 tablespoon light olive oil 1 small aubergine sliced 1 Spanish onion sliced 3 cloves garlic, … Continue reading

Middle School Curriculum Choices from Christian Liberty Press

I have homeschooled since my oldest daughter was in Kindergarten. She is now in seventh grade. I remember back when she started Kindergarten I spent hours finding just the right curriculum with sweat under my brow nervous I’d pick the wrong thing. As she enters a new transition into middle school I feel the same pressure to find the perfect curriculum under the fear of ruining her life with one poor choice. Ahh, those transition years or first steps are so hard for a parent to make. The only advantage I had this time was years of homeschooling experience with … Continue reading

“Newsies” Set for the Stage

One of my recurring columns highlighted “Newsies” as a woefully underappreciated Disney film. Some critics thought the songs were flat but I vehemently disagree; Alan Menken composed the score and I knew some people who hated the film but conceded the quality of the soundtrack. Now “Newsies” might finally get a real shot at the popularity it deserves. Sure, it enjoys a strange sort of cult status amongst girls who discovered it when they were 14 or so (like me), but I think a stage version of the musical gives it a chance at some critical acclaim. According to Moviefone’s … Continue reading

Christians and Depression

Christians should never suffer depression. That’s a common attitude from some people and it is decidedly wrong. People who claim Christians should never suffer depression have failed to understand a basic truth, that it is not something the person chooses to do. It is not showing a lack of faith or that they are lacking in their spiritual life. Depression is quite simply a medical condition like asthma or any other sickness. We don’t tell the person who has asthma it is because they don’t have enough faith or they are lacking in their spiritual life or if they prayed … Continue reading
