Reserve a Turkey Dinner at Disneyland

Normally I try not to post about events at the Disney parks, especially for holidays, until right before they happen. We’re on the cusp of Halloween, so it seems silly to talk about a holiday that won’t come until a month after that. But sometimes I do have to mention events early, as tickets go on sale in advance. Writing about a Thanksgiving dinner open to the public at Disneyland might be timelier in late November, but by then all of the tickets will be sold and any interested parties will lose out. According to the official Disney parks blog, … Continue reading

Disney World New Year’s Eve Celebrations

Why is it that I can find more details on New Year’s Eve events at the Disney parks than I could for Christmas? Probably because Disney kicks off its Christmas events around a month early, so the day itself doesn’t really feature anything unique. At least I can bring you scoop on Disney’s party plans for New Year’s Eve. Obviously both parks will have roaring parties all night long complete with music, fireworks, and parades. Tickets to the Magic Kingdom’s party, however, are already sold out. But the official Disney Parks blog just posted about some of the other celebrations … Continue reading

Creating a Date Night

I regret the demise of wine and dine – those intimate little candle-lit restaurants that used to be around when Mick and I were young. You could have a meal, enjoy listening to someone sing romantic songs and play the piano, or get up and dance. I’m talking, the old time dances where partners actually held each other in their arms. Never having much money we only went to such places for an anniversary, birthday or special evening out. These days the win and dine seems to have disappeared. So the other night we created our own. We went out to … Continue reading

If you are a fan of pizza pies then you might consider hopping on the next flight to Naples, Italy. It’s no secret that the city makes some of the finest pizzas in the world, but this weekend chefs there are offering a one-of-kind pie to honor a special visitor. Naples’ world-class pizza makers have invented a pontiff’s pizza in recognition of Pope Benedict XVI one-day visit to the city to celebrate Mass and attend a meeting. Chefs at one of Naples’ most famous restaurants, the bastion of Neapolitan cooking Ciro a Santa Brigida came up with the idea on … Continue reading

Weekend Fun In Florida

The Green Bay Packers have a bye week this Sunday so my neighbors are going to Florida. (Nice, huh?) They are season ticket holders who don’t travel if it means missing a home game. So, they are off the hook for a couple of weeks. And (sniff) here I sit (sniff, sniff) watching them pack up their motor home from my window (they leave first thing in the morning) wishing I could smuggle my own bags—and body–in their cottage on wheels. We’ve picked up more than 3 inches of rain since Sunday and I would give anything to escape the … Continue reading
