Keeping The Word of Wisdom

The Word of Wisdom is a wonderful guideline for the health and safety of the members of the church. Often people think that it is only teenagers or new members that are tempted to disobey the Word of Wisdom or who might find themselves in a situation when it is difficult to obey it. In my experience as an adult I have been in more situations where I had to stand up for my beliefs then when I was growing up. This may be because I grew up in Utah and I now live outside of Utah or it may … Continue reading

The Spirit of the Word of Wisdom

Often we think of the Word of Wisdom and think simply of the things, which we should not be doing: drinking coffee, smoking, drinking alcohol, and using drugs. We overlook the simple premise of the Word of Wisdom, which is to take care of our bodies in a positive and healthy way. In his talk “The Word of Wisdom: The Principles and the Promises” President Boyd K Packer said: “Honor the principle of the Word of Wisdom and you will receive the promised blessings. ‘All saints,’ the revelation promises, ‘who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience … Continue reading

Blessings From Keeping the Word of Wisdom

The Word of Wisdom is a wonderful guide and commandment. In 1833 the Lord counseled us to no longer use tobacco, alcohol, and hot drinks. He also counseled us on how to eat. Grains, fruits and herbs are to be the focus of your diet, with meat used sparingly. He counseled us on how to take care of our bodies for optimal health. I had always thought that I was following the Word of Wisdom, which I was for the most part. When I was twenty years old I became sick nearly every time I ate for several months. I … Continue reading

Exercise – The Bane of My Life or Boon of My Existence

I have a friend who keeps me honest. Every morning she emails me, knowing that I’m at the computer before the crack of dawn, and it reads: “Walking? It’s not raining.” I, of course, have to answer yes, because exercise is good for you and she’s at my door ten minutes later. Wait, I better get dressed, she’s on her way right now. Okay, I’m back — 45 minutes of walking up and down hills sure gives you a new perspective on life. Let me explain. Donna, that’s my walking partner, and I talk about the state of the nation, … Continue reading
