Adoption Day in Korea Today

Today, May 11, has been designated as “Adoption Day” in South Korea, the beginning of a week of events promoting domestic adoption among Koreans. Adoption Day was begun last year by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. In 2004, 2,258 children left Korea to be adopted in other countries. Primarily the adoptive parents were from U.S. and Australia, but Korean children have also been adopted in the Netherlands and the Scandinavian countries, and probably others. We are familiar with Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. But did you know that 26 countries in the world celebrate Children’s Day? Some adoptive parents’ groups have activities for their members to celebrate this day, which in South Korea is May 5. This might be one part of your child’s ethnic heritage well worth celebrating. Coupon Book for Mom

You may have seen this idea before, but I really like this one. Make up a cool coupon book for Mom, and let her redeem her special coupons for lots of hugs, help with chores and maybe a nice neck or shoulder massage. Get creative with coupon ideas and make them for thoughtful things that your mom will appreciate. Don’t just write your ideas out on paper; make the coupons really fancy.
