9-11 and Other Traumas

That morning in 2001 will go down in history as being a morning that truly changed the world. Despite the horror of the events of that day, it was also a day of world solidarity, as people of all races and creeds came together to stand in awe and disbelief at the magnitude of what had occurred. But this event was much more than the death of a relative handful of people and the destruction of mere bricks and mortar. As with any disaster, there is always a spark; a light that never goes out. That light is the human … Continue reading

One Tuesday Morning – Karen Kingsbury

When I reviewed nationally published Christian author Karen Kingsbury’s “Like Dandelion Dust,” I said I would be hunting down more books by her. Well, I did, and while I didn’t enjoy this book quite as much as I did “Dandelion,” I liked it quite a bit, so much that I was up until 3 a.m. finishing it. They seem to have forgotten the horror we felt the … Continue reading

Five Years Later: Let Us Take a Moment . . .

Yes, that is a twist on the Guy Fawkes rhyme, but I think it’s appropriate in its own way this morning. I have witnessed several disasters in my life, including watching the television when the Challenger exploded during takeoff during my middle school science class. I remember the frightening images of the Waco compound burning. I remember being in New York in 1993 when explosions rocked the World Trade Center from bombs in the parking garage. I remember … Continue reading
