Take a Teacher Work Day!

Have you ever taken a Teacher Work Day? As homeschooling moms we are in charge of a lot from laundry to grading spelling tests. Our jobs can get overwhelming and we can often get behind in our planning and organizing. Now, if you are someone who does not understand how anyone can get behind on laundry or loses track of a plan for the day then kudos to you and please let me know how you do it. I, for one, am far from organized and easily get behind on laundry. I run a home, a homeschool and I work. It is a lot to balance with two hands. In fact, with three responsibilities listed and only two hands that forces me to juggle. My juggling isn’t world class. One way to combat the chaos is by taking a Teacher Word Day. If you can plan Teacher Work Days throughout the year that is even better!

What is a Teacher Work Day?

A Teacher Work Day is a day you take off of teaching to work on planning, organizing, and retooling your homeschool. You can certainly throw in cleaning and getting ahead on laundry. It is a day where you take care of business, regroup, and get excited about starting the next day.

How often should you take a Teacher Work Day?

I suggest taking one at the beginning of every term or semester. If you feel you need to take days more often perhaps every three weeks would work for you. Consider planning “office hours” once a week to organize and plan if that works better for you. The point is you need time to concentrate on the business of homeschooling in order to implement it in a positive and effective manner.

What are the kids doing during a Teacher Work Day?

*Send them to grandma’s for the day.

*Give them time to play outside.

*Give them quiet work to do such as reading, computer work or review work.

*Use this time for showing documentaries or even a movie.

*Give them the day off if they are old enough to occupy themselves and enjoy it.

*Plan ahead with arts and crafts they can do on their own.

*Allow your oldest to teach for the day!
