Take Care of Yourself

As a mother or a father it is important to find time to take care of yourself, so that you have the strength that you need to care for your family. It can be difficult to find the right balance when it comes to this. There are people who spend too much time on meeting their own needs first, and in doing this they forget to care for their families. While there are others who devote so much time to their families and they end up overwhelming themselves.

As a parent and a spouse you need to make sure you are nourished in several ways. You need to spiritually nourish yourself through scripture study and prayer each day. This will help you to maintain your testimony. It also helps you to gain perspective on your trials and gives you added strength to meet life’s demands.

You also need to make sure that you are nourishing yourself physically. You should be eating healthy meals and avoiding foods that can harm your body. You should be exercising on a regular basis. This will give you strength and the health you need to accomplish your tasks. Most importantly you should make sure that you are receiving adequate rest. This will help your mood, as well as your physical stamina. As a parent to infants or toddlers, you may find it difficult to do this. When you have a rough night, take it easy the next day and try to squeeze in a nap.

You should also nourish yourself emotionally. In the same way that children need fun and relaxing activities as well as time with their peers, so do you. This should be time with your spouse. You should also spend time with your friends. Service is another great way to do this. You may need to set aside a few hours a week to do something that completely relaxes you.

If you allow yourself a bit of time everyday to care for your needs, you will find that the time you spend with your family will be more positive. You will be able to work more efficiently around the home, and you will spend better quality time with your children.
