Take Time to Be Still

It is easy to become too busy to do the things, which are truly most important. If you feel that you are being pulled too many directions, that you have an amount of work, which is impossible to complete, you may have. The world today expects so much from individuals. It is easy to become so caught up in the things that we should be doing that we often neglect the things that are truly important.

Many of the choices before you may be good ones. It can be difficult to decide when and where you need to cut back. It may take moments of quiet to be able to determine, which areas need to be cut back. Many people try to juggle being a parent, working full-time, volunteering at school and at church, and shuttling your children from lesson to lesson. It is no wonder that by the end of the day many people are frazzled and too exhausted to think.

In his book “Way to Be: 9 Rules for Living the Good Life” President Gordon B Hinckley speaks about the importance of being still. He speaks of the many distractions that the world throws at us, including social activities, the Internet, video games, and sports. He says:

“Find some time to drown out the noise of the world . . . take occasion to think about your life. Take time to think about the kind of man or woman you want to become.

The scriptures admonish: ‘Be still and know that I am God’ (Psalm 46:10).”

If you feel that you are constantly pulled every which way you should take some time to be still. Your family also needs time to just be still. As you set aside a short amount of time each day or a longer period during the week you will find that things will fall into place. You will see which items you can cut back on, and what areas you should focus on. You can nurture your spirit by giving yourself the chance for meditation and self-reflection.
