Over the past few months I have written a couple different articles over taking time to pray. Both of the articles I wrote spoke specifically about things that Christians could ask God for in their prayers. However, today I want to look at a different side of prayer, a side I often neglect.
Christians need to remember to thank the Lord in their prayers. I know I often get caught up in everyday things, and I forget to praise and thank the Lord like I should. Gratitude toward God should be a high priority in one’s prayer life. I thought that for this article I would share some specific verses dealing with thankfulness, and why Christians should be thankful to the Lord.
“I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High.”
(Psalms 7:17)
“I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!”
(Psalms 57:9-11)
“You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you. Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!”
(Psalms 118:28-29)
“Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.”
(Ephesians 5:4)
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
