Taking a Couple’s Cruise

With the amount of space given to pictures of happy couples gazing loving into each other’s eyes in cruise lines’ glossy magazine ads you would think that sea voyages are mainly aimed at newlyweds or lovers longing to recreate their honeymoon.

Cruising can be one of the most romantic vacation options, and while it may seem as though all ships cater to couples there are some vessels within a fleet that can contribute to the feeling of “amore” more than others.

Take a look:

Princess Cruises

Cruise experts say the best ships for romance on this line include the Crown Princess and the Emerald Princess. The ships are the newest members of the fleet and offer some outstanding first-time-ever features.

For example, you and your beloved can enjoy a romantic night at “Movies Under the Stars.” The onboard attraction features a retro drive-in where you recline on padded loungers and watch some of Hollywood’s most romantic flicks. During the day couples flock to The Sanctuary. The new addition is a (mostly) shaded Zen-like retreat, complete with waiters, a spa menu and massage services. The ships’ spas also come complete with private Rasul rooms (mud rooms with steam and other amenities). Also included on the new vessels is a new concept lounge (think cozy and private) featuring a cabaret singer on one of the top decks.

Princess Cruises also offers the Ultimate Balcony Dining dinner experience for hardcore lovebirds. For $100 per couple, cruisers are treated to a lobster dinner with champagne and course-by-course service on their cabin’s balcony.

Both ships boast the line’s traditionally high percentage of suites and mini-suites and each features a romantic Grand Suite, which includes separate sitting area, balcony that stretches between living room and bedroom, and a fabulous whirlpool tub.

Also, all of the Princess’ Grand class ships have premier wedding chapels and captains empowered to perform ceremonies.
