Summer is about half over, can you believe it? Time just soars by when you are keeping busy. There are times I just want to slow down the clock. I feel like so much is going on around me while I work away. I am certain most people feel this way. Everyone wants more time with family, friends, pursuing hobbies, and having fun in the sun. I often want to take a long summer break, like I used to before I worked from home. Before then, I was a homeschooling mom who took the summers off. Now, I am a homeschooling, work at home mom, who tries to get as much done in the summer so I can concentrate on schooling the kids in the fall. Is there wisdom in this?
After a year or so with no real break, I have decided to take a summer break. That is hard for a small business owner. Time is money and taking time off is like losing money. Most home business workers do not have employees to keep things afloat while they take a vacation. Too much time off the social media radar can equal social media suicide. So what should you do?
You should let go. You should make a life without the regrets of spending precious summer afternoons playing games with the kids. If your business is still in its infancy, then take a modified summer break. I cannot afford a summer vacation and I just started to revamp an old business into new. It is just gaining ground and I cannot afford to vanish for too long anyway. So, while my husband has a week off, we are planing a home vacation. Day one, we are taking the kids to the zoo, out to lunch and the a baseball game. Day two, I am taking the girls to see Brave while the guys will be playing basketball and then we will go swimming. Day three, my husband and I are going for some alone time by having dinner and staying the night at a hotel while the kids are at grandma’s. Day four, we will pick the kids up and play it by ear. Day five is my daughter’s birthday! Day six we are having a get together with family at a park. Whew! That is quite a filled week! But it is well deserved by all.
Oh yes, I will still be working around that crazy schedule.
