Taking the Focus OFF Yourself and Your Business

I can get fixated. With so much riding on my building my home business, things can get out of balance and out of whack. I’m sure I am not alone when I confess that sometimes I can get into a rut where it is all about me and my business. While keeping the drum of public relations going can be a good thing, it can also be incredibly rejuvenating and re-energizing to take some of the focus OFF for a good change of pace…

I suppose too much of anything can be a “bad” thing and that goes for ego and self promotion too. I think that having plenty of positive energy and staying on task with our home businesses is a good thing, but sometimes we need to come up for air and to gain a little fresh perspective. So, what can we do? Focus on something else—family, friends, a community project or church activity. Try NOT to let your conversation and thoughts come back around to yourself and your business efforts for an entire weekend (or even an entire week). You might be surprised at how difficult it is to NOT think and talk about your home business.

I liken it to when I was a brand new parent. My baby was the most beautiful, perfect, smartest baby that there ever was. In fact, I had a very good friend tell me “You’d think you were the first person to ever have a baby.” I got so fixated on everything having to do with my new parenthood and my new child that I lost perspective. It became tough for others to relate to me and tough for me to relate to anyone else on any levels other than through my role as a mom. I had to take some of the focus OFF, in order to achieve some balance and branch back out into the big, wide world.

The same can happen with entrepreneurialism and a new business. Take a break in order to keep things in balance!
