Talents and Callings

When we think of callings and talents we generally feel that we are called to serve in areas where we already have developed our talents. However, we are often called to serve in areas where we can grow. This may seem frustrating at first, because there are areas where it may be easier to serve than others, but it is important to look at this in a positive manner.

You may want to consider how your talents can be applied to this new calling. If you are called as a teacher, but consider your strongest talents to be in music, then try to find ways to incorporate music into your lessons. You can play or plan for prelude music or have a special musical number occasionally with your lessons. You can also use examples of how music has helped you through different trials in your life.

If you are called to the activities committee, but you do not feel that you are good at organizing and planning activities, look for other ways that you can help. You may be really good at making posters and handouts and be able to help out in that area. You may be good at being a friend and reaching out to members that way. This would be an excellent addition to the activities committee.

If you are struggling with a calling, because you feel that you do not have the talents or skills to complete the calling, make it a matter of prayer. The Lord will help you to make your weaknesses your strengths as you rely on Him. He can inspire you on ways to complete your new calling. You may end up discovering a hidden talent, and have the change to fully develop it. You may also have the opportunity to develop patience. No matter what you do, you should do your best to fulfill the calling you have accepted.
