Teaching For the Big Test

Homeschoolers especially do not like teaching for the test, or even taking tests, but it is hard to avoid the SAT if you are college bound. The SAT is probably the most important test a homeschooler can take so teaching for this test can take a full year of concentrated study. If you have several years to go before taking the SAT, however, there is a much more laid back method you can use.

The college Board Website the same site that will compile your children’s test scores and report them to schools, and will help you make a college decision, will also send you an SAT question to your email box every day.

I signed up for this email service about a month ago and my son and I have enjoyed getting an SAT test question every day, answering it and comparing our results. We also discuss why we got an answer right or wrong. My son will probably take the SAT for the first time in 2 years, and by this time, he will have discussed over 700 test questions. I believe this will greatly improve his chances of success on the SAT. When my daughter finishes middle school, I will start her on the question-a-day as well.

This is a great resource for college bound students whether they homeschool or not. A public school senior I know signed up for the service after having mediocre results on his first SAT test. He took the test two more times and now has an academic scholarship for college. If a public school student can have such great results in just six months time, I believe a homeschooler or anyone else for that matter would ace the test with two to three years preparation.
