Teaching the Gospel: Loving Those You Teach

When it comes to effective gospel teaching one of the key things that a teacher can do is to love her students. This should be similar to the love the Savior has for each of us. A teacher can demonstrate this love by taking the time to get to know her students in class. A teacher can also pray for her students and pray to prepare lessons that will meet their needs.

One of the most important places that each person will teach is in the home. It is important to develop a Christ like love for each member of your family. As parents this love comes a little bit more naturally. It is important to remember and demonstrate this love even during the difficult times with your children.

The key to bringing this love effectively in your lessons really is prayer. You can pray to have the spirit with you. If you are having a particular difficult time with loving one student you can pray to have your heart softened. You can also begin to find the positive qualities in that person. Everyone has positive aspects, and as you notice them, you should begin to compliment that person on them.

Taking time each week to talk to your students a little bit about their interests and lives will help to build a good rapport with your students. They will be more open to listening to your lesson, if they truly believe that you care about them. It is a great way to build friendships in the class between the students as well. If you can set a positive tone it will carry over in all aspects of the class. Remember that you need to show and demonstrate the respect that you want to feel at all times to your students.
