I read a short story once when I was in junior high. It talked about the rapid takeover of technology and how eventually everything would be done via technology from ordering our food to paying our bills to shopping and yes, even to walking the dog.
Well there’s a reason why they call it science fiction – because science fiction speculates on the future of science, as we know it. Well, that future is here now and our technology boom is reflected in all the great gadgets, gizmos and downloadable available for you to boost your own fitness levels.
Let’s take a look at some of those neat gizmos we have:
- iPod – They are taking over everything, but there’s plenty of fitness programs and celebrity trainers available for you to download to your iPod – not to mention the iPod + Nike tie-in
- Bones In Motion – it’s a program available to those Sprint cellular users out there. The program uses a GPS connection to track not only the time and length of cycling, running or walking workouts, but also the speed you traveled. There is an interactive web site where you can keep a log of your activities for private or public consumption – a subscription is $9.99 per month
- My Food Phone – This is a bit weird, but you can snap pictures of everything you are eating and send it to a food adviser who will then analyze and provide you with critiques of your eating habits through web videos -again, this is only available for Sprint customers and it costs – yes, you guessed it $9.99 per month
- Demand Fitness – Talk about being able to demand your fitness classes your way on the Internet. The site provides you with Internet workout classes and you can pick what you want to do and for how long you want to do it for whether it’s 5 minutes or 40 minutes. The cost runs anywhere from $.99 daily to $14.99 monthly. There are free previews that you can check out to see if you’re interested
Can you imagine the world without the Internet in it anymore? It’s strange – did you know that people really do interact without a message board or a blog? No – you’re right, I find it hard to remember too.
