One of my daughters just loves teddy bears. She has quite a collection ranging from stuffed teddy bears to magnets, picture frames, ceramics, and even blown glass. If it looks like a teddy bear or has teddy bears on it, she adores it.
One year for her birthday I decided I was going to order a teddy bear cake. I searched everywhere but just couldn’t find anything that great. None of the offerings were shaped like bears, and the ones that were decorated with teddy bears, just weren’t that cute.
So, I decided to make my own teddy bear cake. I started with two round layer pans. I mixed up another cake mix and made that one into cupcakes.
I wrapped a large piece of heavy cardboard in foil to place the cake on and arranged the two round layers to make the bear’s head and his torso. I placed them one above the other, touching at the center. Next, I placed two cupcakes at the top for ears.
Where the two round layers came together, I placed two cupcakes next to each other on each side for arms and then added two sets of three cupcakes coming down from the body for legs.
Teddy was of course decorated and he turned out quite cute. I used Gummi Bears as buttons on his torso and then sprinkled some more on the base around the cake.
It was simple and fun to do and my little girl loved it. She’s thirteen now and still fondly mentions her teddy bear cake from time to time.
