… for now.
Proving that you don’t have to reach the age of maturity to become a parent, MTV “Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood is back in the headlines following her arrest for beating on her baby daddy Gary Shirley.
The reality TV starlet pleaded guilty earlier this week to two counts of felony domestic battery and showed her two-year-old daughter why she shouldn’t follow in her mama’s footsteps.
Thursday’s plea signified a major change in Portwood’s original argument that she was 100 percent innocent. In December, the 21-year-old mother went public decrying her arrest for assaulting Shirley, her on-again, off-again fiance and father to the couple’s toddler daughter Leah.
Six months later Portwood escaped jail time by copping a plea inside a courtroom in Anderson, Indiana. That’s where a judge ordered the former teen mom to serve two years probation, complete 30 days of inpatient therapy; obtain her high school diploma and put aside $10,000 to start a college fund for Leah.
START a college fund?
The chick makes $140,000 every six months for allowing MTV cameras to tape her every move, and she hasn’t put any of the money away for Leah?
For some weird reason I thought that all of the “Teen Mom” stars were contractually obligated by MTV to put some of their earnings from appearing on the popular reality TV series into a trust for the munchkins that provide them with job security.
Now I know how those girls are able to afford those weekly manicures.
In Portwood’s case, MTV captured and aired video of her shoving, punching, slapping and choking Shirley, which landed her in jail to begin with. According to reports, the out of control mom spent a night in jail before she was released on $5,000 bail. Her court appearance on Thursday led to the judge mandating that she get her high school diploma (no word on how long she’s been given to do that; apparently, she’s failed the GED test twice already) and sock away some money for little Leah’s education.
I will be interested to see whether or not Portwood follows the court’s instructions.
What’s your guess? Do you think Portwood will stay out of jail?
