When I was in second grade I received a Teenage Mutant Ninga Turtle easter basket. I cried immediately when it was given to me, and then proceeded to throw a tantrum for the next few days. I had in fact pointed out the easter basket to my mother as a great easter basket, but had my brother in mind for the gift. I had wanted an easter basket with a large stuffed animal, my enthusiastic reaction to the Ninage Turtles had won me that easter basket instead however much to my dismay.
Years later I did start to enjoy the Ninga Turtles. Their first movie titled simply “Teenage Mutant Ninga Turtles” is one that is actually in my video collection today. In the movie life sized turtles fight against “the Shredder” under the training of a rat mentor named Splinter. The Ninga Turtle cartoon was around for years and spawned a new updated version later on that was popular although not as much as the first and was eventually cancelled.
The movie does a good job of taking cartoon like characters and portraying them as real life ones. I can remember popping this movie in to watch tons of times as a child, to a point that we actually wore out our VHS tape.
The movie does get violent at times, to a point that I imagine if it was rated today it would received a PG-13 rating rather than the PG it got when it was released. This is also not really a movie you want to show younger children who still mimic what they see in movies. Otherwise you may end up with your five year old performing karate chops on their sister. Having once been that sister I can tell you it’s not fun.
Teenage Mutant Ninga Turtles is available where ever DVDs are sold.
