Teletubbies! Get Up and Go, Go, Go!

In March of 2000, the Teletubbies hosted their first National Day of Exercise. This year, the Teletubbies National Day of exercise will take place on May 17, 2006. According to their press release, there will be a special broadcast of Go! Exercise with the Teletubbies on PBS Kids. I encourage you to let your children check it out. There are supposed to be events hosted by local PBS stations as well.

Designed to drive awareness, the Teletubbies Get up And Go is a program to educate caregivers, parents and teachers about the importance of exercise and activity. It also emphasizes the joy of active participation and physical motion in young children.

The experiences of musical movement will be emphasized both through live events and the broadcasts. The Teletubbies are cute, colorful British characters that engage in simple exercises and they invite children to join them in their workout. Parents who are interested in more information on this event can visit the www.getupandgo.tv site for materials, event guidelines, activities, coloring sheets and downloadable certificates as well as safety and fitness tips.

The great thing about events like these is they help us help our children. Encouraging an active body also encourages an active mind. Make activity a goal for all of you. Check out the May 17th event as well as the website. I’ll be mentioning this again in May – so we can all stay on target!
