Television News: The Dirt on Dirt and Celebrity Rehab

Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew

If you didn’t get enough of “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” in Season 1, just wait until you hear what Season 2 had in store! First of all, there is a whole new cast of celebs in need of help. Jeff Conaway of “Taxi” fame returns for stint #2 and Rod Stewart’s son Sean will be there as will model Amber Smith. If you saw her on “Surreal Life,” it will come as no surprise that actress Tawny Kitaen will also join the cast. There is even another reality star – Season 1 “American Idol” finalist Nikki McKibbin – that will appear. Heavy Metal fans may be glad to see original Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler show up and the man who we all saw beat down by the LAPD, Rodney King, will also be there.

Now, here is the part I find extremely interesting. A man who is himself no stranger to rehab (or odd behavior), Gary Busey will serve as the cast mates mentor. Gary Busey… mentor? Isn’t that kind of like hiring Kiefer Sutherland to be a sobriety coach? Despite his bizarre outbursts (the whole Jennifer Garner thing at this year’s Oscar red carpet is running through my mind), Busey kicked his cocaine habit 13 years ago and has been clean every since.

The show will premiere in October and will feature eight, hour-long episodes that will record the celebs 21 day rehab stint as they receive both personal and group therapy.

“Dirt” Cancelled

Apparently, “Dirt” didn’t have the good dirt on celebs because the Courtney Cox fueled series has been cancelled by FX. Courtney and hubby David Arquette produced the series that featured Courtney as the editor on two celebrity gossip rags. The last episode aired on April 13 and the second season was considerably shorter (seven episodes vs. thirteen the first season) due to the writer’s strike. Of working with her husband, Courtney said, “We’re developing all kinds of stuff right now. We’ll be producing more stuff together, for sure.”
