Yesterday I watched my husband telling the Bible story and how the young children focused on what he told them. He has a real gift in relating to children. I told him that and how I enjoy teaching with him.
‘I love Scripture’ one of the girls at school said yesterday. ‘So do I,’ I replied. ‘Because I love that we can come and tell you about Jesus.’ I especially love the way my husband’s been passionate for over thirty years about teaching children of Jesus
I love the way he knows when I need to write and leaves me alone to get on with it while he picks up the slack by doing the washing up or other tasks. Last night he cooked our leg of lamb for dinner in the barbeque.
I love the way he listens to what is preached at church and takes note. I love the way the next evening he produced his bible and got us back into reading and studying God’s Word together – something which had tended to slip a little lately. I love that we can pray together for our family, our church, missionaries and other points of concern in the world.
I love the way he laughs at my jokes, compliments me on tasty meals and the way he holds me close against him as we settle for sleep at the end of the evening. I love the way we talk together about important things and about nothing.
Last night I was reading a book and the woman’s husband had died. Twelve months later she was involved with someone else. ‘How long do you think it would take for you to find someone else if I died?’ I asked.
‘Probably forever, because I wouldn’t be looking’ he said.
How could I not love an answer like that! Then I explained what prompted the question, which was that I couldn’t imagine moving on that quickly if anything happened to him.
What about your husband? Have you stopped to think of what you love about him? More importantly have you told him? Do you thank him for the person he is and the things he does? Do you take time to tell him how much you love and admire him and why?
And guys just in case you think this applies only to the women, it doesn’t. Why don’t you compliment you wife today and tell her some of the reason you love her.
It’s another way of fulfilling the commands to husbands and wives in Ephesians 5:22-31
