Temple Square

I feel so blessed to live in Utah. Not growing up here, I try hard not to take for granted the wonderful history that surrounds me and the beautiful Salt Lake City Temple that I get to see, and attend regularly.

As a family, we are starting to have a little tradition to take our kids who are now 4 and almost 2 downtown to walk around temple square. We live within about a five minute drive, and it is easy for us to go down there, walk around for about 30 minutes, and let our kids get tired before bedtime. We head down there quite often now, probably because our youngest is a little rambunctious. But, I always love the feeling that we have there. The kids get so excited too!

Our four year old already loves the temple. She loves to asks questions, and look at the fountains, streams, and reflecting pool that make temple square such a beautiful place. Christmas is especially a wonderful time of year. Although temple square is usually crowded at Christmas, we went last night and had a great time. It was fairly warm (in the 30’s) and the crowds weren’t too bad yet.

The kids ran from nativity to nativity pointing out Jesus and getting excited. They loved seeing all the lights, and listening to the story of the birth of Jesus. When I told my 4 year old that it was President Monson’s voice she was hearing over the speakers, her eyes lit up! For more about how much work goes into setting up all those lights, go here. It really is remarkable how much work goes into it. They start work in August, and don’t take the lights completely down until March. So, a lot goes into the beauty that we see at Christmas time.

It is every LDS Mother’s prayer that her kids will get married in the temple. I hope by taking mine down there so often, and talking to them about our own special day there, they will grow to love it, and more importantly, long to go inside it.
