Temporary Housing and Apartments

Many families call apartments, other rentals, or military housing, home. Unfortunately, some of these spaces don’t always feel as homey as we’d like. We all know that decorating apartments or temporary housing can be a challenging experience. Not only are most rentals somewhat limited for space, but they also usually have many rules that keep families from making any drastic changes.

Since one of the most important elements of making a house or apartment into a home is adding color, the first step is to speak to the landlord. He or she may agree to allow painting, and may even take the cost of materials off your rent. If so, it may be worth the effort to go ahead and paint.

In many cases however, landlords allow only neutral colors or do not allow painting at all. Sometimes window treatments cannot be removed, in order to maintain a consistent feel from the exterior of the building. If you run into these or other restrictions, don’t worry!

The good news is there are ways to make any space more homelike. We will offer some ideas to help you do so without breaking any rules and without spending a lot of money.

Most of the ideas included are portable, so you will be able to take everything with you when you move again. This way, you won’t be investing your hard work and hard earned money in someone else’s property. You’ll be investing in accessories that you can use again, no matter how many times you need to move.

It can be discouraging to finally get your place fixed up the way you want it and then have to move again. One advantage of portable decor is the fact that you won’t have to start decorating from scratch each time. Another is the ability to make each new space feel comforting and more like home, by filling it with well-loved, familiar items.

Please come back from time to time to check out portable solutions for adding color, style, functionality, comfort, and storage.
