Texas Hash

This recipe is called Texas Hash. It is a recipe that you can add to or take away from to make it delicious. It starts with your basics: hamburger, onion, green pepper, rice and tomato, chili powder for seasoning, and salt and pepper to taste. Since I cook for a big family, I have learned that the more I put in to it, the further it will go.
To make this recipe, you will need:

2 pounds of hamburger

2 Onions, diced

2 Green peppers, chopped

1-1 pound can of diced tomatoes

1 Cup uncooked instant rice

2 teaspoons chili powder

salt and pepper to taste

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook hamburger until light brown; drain fat. Add onions and green peppers. Cook until onions and green peppers are tender. Stir in tomatoes, rice, chili powder, salt and pepper. Stir thoroughly. Transfer into an ungreased 2 quart casserole. Cover and bake about 30 minutes.

Suggestions:
You can add pinto beans or kidney beans, corn, peas or carrots to the mixture when you add the tomatoes and rice.
This tastes great with croissant rolls, cornbread or on a tortilla shell.
You can also make the mixture and top it with lettuce, fresh tomato, cheese and salsa to make it a Mexican night.
You can omit the green peppers when you add the onions, cook the rest as directed. When you are ready to put the mixture in a casserole dish, instead, stuff green pepper halves then bake it at 350 degrees for one hour. Add a cup of water on the bottom of the pan to keep your stuffed peppers moist while baking.
You can mix up your cornbread mixture and pour it over the meat mixture once you put it in the casserole dish. Bake as directed.
No matter how you make this dish, it will be great!
