I really must have Baby Shower on the brain this week, eh? There is so much to cover. Once you’ve finally gotten all your loot home, and it’s piled up along the walls of your nursery, another thought comes to mind: thank you cards. No, you may not sign onto Twitter and tweet, “Thank you everyone for all seventy-five of these wonderful gifts for my baby!” Even if it is only seventy characters, it’s not personal or appropriate.
Instead, stick with the traditional hand written note. It is time consuming, but that is part of the value. There are some things you can do, however, to speed up the process.
Addresses: When you’re getting ready to send out invitations, print out two sets of address labels. The first set will be for the invitations and the second set will be for the thank you cards later on.
Detailed Gift List: Have a friend or family member record all the gifts from the shower in a notebook rather than writing on the inside of each card. It’s too easy to misplace a card and it’s cumbersome when you’re writing your thank you notes to look through all of them when some are big and some are just a flap from a gift bag.
Streamline: Start out by addressing all of your envelopes. Then stamp them all. Write each thank you card using your ordered list, stuffing it into the appropriate envelope as you go and checking it off the list.
Not sure what to say? Try this:
Dear (Name),
Thank you so much for coming to my shower and for helping me prepare for baby (name – if you know it). I’m so blessed to have such generous friends and family! I really love the (item). I can’t wait to (describe how you will use it: “put this dress on Sophia” or “use these for Johnny’s bath”). (He/She) will be here before we know it!
With Gratitude,
(Your Name)
If you want, you can also include a group photo or a picture of you with your guest at the shower.
