There is a crazy amount of thunder and lightning outside, but I’m doing quite all right at my kitchen table home office. Fortunately, the kids are not at all bothered by all of the flashing and crashing so I am able to carry on with the evening’s work as scheduled. A few minutes ago, I began to worry about whether the electricity will be knocked out by the storm.
Mid – worry, I caught myself. I realized that I no longer need to be overly concerned about losing electricity for one night, thanks to a wonderful birthday gift that I got from my husband a few months ago. That gift is a new laptop, and it has improved the efficiency with which I can do my work because it starts up quickly and programs and web pages load quickly. Even more importantly, the battery lasts for about four hours once it is unplugged (or the electricity goes out). That is in sharp contrast to my old computer, which had gotten to the point where it would shut down after being unplugged for just five minutes.
I don’t have to worry much about the internet, either. As long as my cell phone has service and battery life, it serves as a mobile hotspot that I use to connect my computer to the internet. We got those phones just a couple of months ago as well. Those two equipment upgrades have given me additional peace of mind because they enable me to stick to my work schedule even if the electricity goes out for a night.
Just for the record, the power is still on. If anything stands to disrupt my work session this evening it would be my desire to find out what animal is clumsily crashing about in our yard. The storm seems to have set it running about, and I am curious because it sounds like it could be something large like a bear, dear, or moose. Of course since bear is one of the possibilities, it is probably much safer to remain seated at the table doing my work.
