Yes, it’s the day after Thanksgiving and I am working. I don’t get to stand in a long line, waiting for door buster savings at my favorite stores…no Black Friday shopping for me. I didn’t get to sleep in very late.
In fact, this week doesn’t feel much different than most weeks. The only way I was able to “take off” yesterday for Thanksgiving was to plan my work so that I would end up spending some of my Saturday doing it.
Now don’t get me wrong…I am not trying to get sympathy. Would I rather be enjoying the day shopping, setting up my Christmas tree or curling up in a chair to read a good book? Yes, I would…but I choose to carry my thankful feelings over into today.
I could easily feel sorry for myself and spend the day grumbling. I am reading all these great Facebook posts about people getting awesome deals at stores and just enjoying having a day off. But to me, it’s all about perspective.
I continue to feel thankful today that first of all, I have a job. To be blessed in today’s economy with a job that pays, well, that in itself is enough to change any negative thinking.
I am also thankful that I am healthy enough to work. I have been battling migraines and cold symptoms all week. But I am not debilitated. I am not laid up in a hospital. I am able to still do my work.
Most of all, I am feeling thankful that I am able to work from the comfort of my own home doing what I love most…writing. Those who run home businesses will often find that they spend a great deal of time working. Although we can usually enjoy flexibility, building a home-based business requires a
great deal of time.
If you are working today, think of all the things that you can be thankful for…instead of grumbling and complaining.
