Cooking for one is a challenge any day, cooking for one on Thanksgiving is even harder. I just found out that Logan will be at his dad’s for Thanksgiving this year and now I’m stuck debating whether or not to make a Thanksgiving dinner or not. Cooking a traditional turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pie seems like a bit overkill for one person. I’m afraid we’d be eating left overs for the next year. Instead, I think we will have Thanksgiving dinner the night before.
Perhaps the portions won’t change much by adding a 4 year old to the mix, but it’s much better than eating Thanksgiving dinner alone. If you are going to be on your own for Thanksgiving dinner this year you may want to call up some other single moms and have them over. It gives you a chance to visit with friends and it spares all of you from sitting home alone on Thanksgiving. Talk about all of the things you have to be grateful for. It is hard not to have your little ones with you throughout the holidays, but be thankful for the little bit of time that you get to yourself. It is just another day, you can celebrate any way you want. Use this time to do something for yourself.
We all have a lot to be grateful for this season. Life isn’t perfect as a single parent, but we always have things to be grateful for. You may be divorced, but you have some pretty amazing children from that marriage, and no matter how horrible it was, it was worth it to get them here. You have a roof over your head and food on the table, you might just have had to work a little harder than most to get it there. No matter how hard life is, you always have something to be grateful for.
