Thanksgiving Games

Keep kids entertained or have a little fun while you take a break by playing these games.

Find the Feast

The first one is a twist on the old favorite Hide and Seek. Instead of hiding and waiting for someone to find you, you’ll hide cards that you make and decorate.

Start with some index cards and decorate them with all the foods your family usually enjoys on Thanksgiving, like turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, cranberry sauce, corn on the cob, dinner rolls, and pie. Add as many items as you like to the list and draw each one on an index card. You can also print images or cut them from magazines or holiday themed coloring books, or pick up some fun stickers to use.

Have the children leave the room and hide all the cards. Once they have all been found, the child with the most gets to hide them for the second round.

Think Fast

This is a simple game that doesn’t require any props but usually leads to some laughs. Gather everyone together in a circle then choose a leader. The leader will point to one person and name a holiday. That person must then quickly think of an item associated with the holiday mentioned (you can set a time limit if desired). If that player cannot think of something or repeats an item that has already been mentioned, he or she is out. Once everyone is out, it’s time to pick a new leader.

Make a Word Game

This one isn’t new, but it’s still fun and challenging. Write “Happy Thanksgiving” across the top of a piece of paper and have each player try to make as many words as possible using only those letters.
