Thanksgiving Weekend Getaway Deals for Families with Children

I’ve dedicated an entire series of blogs to alternative Thanksgiving destinations. In this blog I am focusing on families who are trying to make the most of their children’s Thanksgiving break from school. Once you’ve stuffed yourselves with protein and pie you might consider making post-Turkey Day memories at a resort or theme park. Lucky for you it’s not too late to find an affordable Thanksgiving travel deal.

The following packages cater to families with children by offering kid-friendly activities and amenities. For a weekend of family fun check out the following:

MINNESOTA

If you have children between the ages of 4 and 12 this package deal has your name written all over it. Cragun’s Brainerd Resort located in Brainerd, Minnesota is giving parents a break this holiday weekend. The resort is offering a kid’s camp that includes outdoor activities monitored by qualified staff and a kid’s party with Teen Time and karaoke. Other weekend events include a family carnival featuring games, prizes, and face painting. There’s also horse-drawn trolley rides and a marshmallow roasting party. A three-night Thursday-to-Sunday package, which includes all of the aforementioned activities starts at just $119 per night, and you can add on Wednesday for just $65 more.

NORTH CAROLINA

During the extended Thanksgiving weekend the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina is going kid-crazy. The legendary golf resort is offering a myriad of activities to strengthen family ties including wagon rides, tennis clinics, lawn bowling, historic walking tours, croquet, GPS scavenger hunts, s’more roasting and storytelling, cookie decorating, kid’s craft workshops, family movie nights, and “Family Fairways” golf clinics. Rates start at $145 per adult per night, and include daily breakfast and dinner. And an as an added bonus kids 17 and under stay and eat free.

NEW HAMPSHIRE

If your family enjoys spending time in the great outdoors then you will have a ball (literally) at Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire. The family-friendly New England resort is hosting a series of outdoor activities during the Thanksgiving holiday. Weekend events include family flag football games, a 5K Turkey Trot, nightly screenings of family-friendly movies, candle-making and tie-dye workshops, scavenger hunts, gingerbread cookie decorating, and evening musical concerts. In addition, the resort’s annual Christmas tree lighting takes place on Friday evening and kids can get their picture taken with Santa. Rates start at $189 per person per night.

VERMONT

The Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa located in Stowe, Vermont is offering families a weekend filled with hiking, horseback riding, and cider making. A three-night stay including daily breakfast begins at $399.
