The 2012 Golden Globes

The 2012 Golden Globes are over and the award season has officially kicked off. Who were the big winners? George Clooney for one.

My best friend came over to watch and noted that Clooney was working the room, talking to everyone, mingling. That’s because as far as I can tell, it’s George Clooney’s world, we just live in it. He stole Brad Pitt’s cane (the actor had it because of a recent knee injury), quipped about Michael Fassbender, uh, golf game, and even tried to save the night by getting Meryl Streep her glasses so she could read her acceptance speech. Clooney is so charismatic that even if he hadn’t won, he’d still be a winner.

But, as it turns out, he did win. Clooney took home Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for The Descendents. The film also won Best Motion Picture, Drama. Also winning was Streep (Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama), Octavia Spencer (Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for The Help), Christopher Plummer (Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for Beginnings), Jean Dujardin (Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical for The Artist), Michelle Williams won Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical (My Week With Marilyn), and Morgan Freeman (Cecil B. DeMille Award). Woody Allen, a no show, won Best Screenplay in a Motion Picture (for Midnight in Paris), The Adventures of Tintin won Best Animated Feature Film, and an Iranian film, A Separation/i>, won Best Foreign Language Film.

For television, Jessica Lange won Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie (“American Horror Story”) while Peter Dinklage won the male counterpart award for “Game of Thrones.” Matt LeBlanc won Best Actor in a TV Series, Comedy or Musical for “Episodes,” Laura Dern won Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy or Musical for “Enlightened.” Claire Danes, who remembered to thank her parents this time around, won Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama for “Homeland” while Kelsey Grammer won the Best Actor in a TV Series, Drama for “Boss.” “Homeland” won Best TV Series, Drama. Kate Winslet won Best Actress in a Mini-Series or TV Movie for “Mildred Pierce,” Idris Elba won Best Actor in a Mini-Series or TV Movie for “Luther,” and “Downtown Abbey won Best Mini-Series or TV Movie. One of my favorites, “Modern Family” took home Best TV Series, Comedy or Musical.
