Are you looking for some ways to make your home special for your family? Here are several attitudes and ideas to keep in mind if you want a happy home.
A Attentive: Learn to listen and be aware of your family’s needs.
B Behavior that is approprate: Know what your role needs to be in a given situation, i.e. encourager, cheerleader, or drill sergeant.
C Cool, calm and collected: Organize your priorities and have a peaceful spirit. You set the tone in your home.
D Discerning: Learn to sense the attitudes and needs of your family.
E Even temperment: Your mood should not be unpredictable.
F Forgive and forget: Leave others’ mistakes in the past.
G Godly: Ask yourself, “What does God want for my home?”
H Holy: Dedicate your family completely to God.
I Initiator: Get your family serving others and each other.
J Joyful: Smile at your family, it just might be contagious.
K Kindness: Even when you are tired or have had a stressful day, be kind!
L Loving: Show your love by investing your time and tenderness into your family.
M Motherly: Be mothering to your children, but not to your husband!
N Never nag.
O Obedient: Obey the Lord and honor your spouse.
P Pure-hearted: Hard though it may be, think the best about each person under your roof.
Q Quiet in spirit: Meditate on God.
R Ready: To serve your family or do what is needed.
S Submissive and humble in your attitude.
T Take time to spend with God.
U Understanding: Listen without needing to comment.
V Virtuous: Remember Proverbs 31.
W Welcome your family members home each day, make them feel special.
X Xxx’s: Kiss your family often.
Y Youthful in heart: Be optimistic and remember that God is in control.
Z Zealous to do good for others: Reach out.
It is impossible to always follow each of these suggestions. One day we may feel we have everything under control and the next day things seem to be falling apart. Sometimes a morning in my home will start out badly and I’ll think, “Well, today’s shot.” and I’m tempted to give up spiritual victory in my home for the day.
If you sense your home is getting out of control, don’t give up and stop trying to live up to these standards. Instead, take a moment to get alone so you can pray and ask God to restore peace and order in your home. Sometimes taking time to refocus our attention is all the help we need to get back on track.
