The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon – Mini Grey

We all know that the little dog laughed and then the dish ran away with the spoon. But where did they go? What ended up happening to them? Did they live happily ever after, or end up in a rummage sale somewhere? “The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon” by Mini Grey answers these burning questions.

After running for quite some time, they came to the ocean. Dish lay down and let Spoon ride on top, like a boat, and they sailed across, to end up at Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. What a glorious sight!

They decided to audition for Vaudeville, and were a smash hit. But unfortunately, the Dish got a little carried away with the fame and began spending money left and right. A fancy car, hats, and expensive dinners out soon followed, and it wasn’t long before all the money was spent.

Some sharp utensils offered to loan the Dish and Spoon some money, but when they couldn’t pay it back, things got a little ugly. They tied the Dish to the railroad tracks until the Spoon could come up with a plan. It wasn’t the smartest plan in the world – but what else could they do? They turned into bank robbers, complete with black masks and loot bags. Wanted posters popped up all across the country.

They tried to escape, but Dish got broken. Spoon had no will to live after that, and let the cops get him. He served twenty-five years, and when he was released, wandered the streets. One day he came across a shop that specialized in used merchandise. There was his dish, cracked, yet mended. She looked just as lovely to him as she did that very first night they ran away together. And they decided to run away again, just for old times’ sake.

Who would have imagined so much drama? I certainly wouldn’t – but like they say, life is always stranger than fiction. I’m so glad now that I know what happened to the Dish and the Spoon, and to know what wherever they are, they’re together.
