Call it the antithesis of Beyonce’s ultra-luxe penthouse nuptials.
Location apparently doesn’t matter much to rapper Remy Ma. The Grammy-nominated artist says she won’t let a few metal bars and her bright orange jail-issued jumpsuit stop her from following through on her wedding plans.
Remy Ma, whose real name is Remy Smith, had planned to marry her fiancé, fellow rapper Papoose long before she was convicted last month of assault, weapon possession and attempted coercion and sent to New York’s Rikers Island jail. The 26-year-old performer remains behind bars as she awaits her sentencing for shooting a friend she is suspected of stealing $3,000 from, according to news reports.
Details, details.
Despite all that Remy Ma says nothing is going to stop her from marrying Papoose, whose real name is Shamele Mackie. The nuptials will likely happen before her sentencing, which is set for April 23. That’s when a judge could send the rapper to prison for up to 25 years.
But at least she will be a married woman when it happens. According to prison officials, they don’t plan to stand in the way of Remy Ma getting married. In fact, officials say about 200 weddings are performed each year at Rikers Island, which offers chaplains and chapels. There are, however, a few restrictions involved such as only two guests will be permitted to view the ceremony, and the couple won’t be allowed to wear rings with protruding gems.
Another celebrity wedding behind bars could be in the works if actress Anne Hathaway decides to marry her recently arrested boyfriend any time soon.
According to reports, Raffaello Follieri, was arrested Thursday in New Jersey for allegedly writing a bad check… for $215,000.
But, that’s not the only reason the 29-year-old scion of a powerful Italian real estate family might not be a free man in time for a summer wedding with his 24-year-old lady love. It appears Follieri has been the subject of a number of lawsuits, including one filed by billionaire Bill and Hilary Clinton associate – Ron Burkle.
Burkle filed a lawsuit against Follieri last May. In it he claims Follieri took more than $1 million of his company’s money to shower extravagant gifts on Hathaway, including a $40,000 a month penthouse apartment in the Trump Tower, private jet travel, and lavish spending sprees.
Follieri and Hathaway have been dating for three years.
No word if she plans to bail him out of his latest predicament.
