Things were definitely coming together for the baby shower and we only had a few more things to do before the guests began to arrive. Soon enough our oldest sister arrived with the punch bowl. Since it was fifteen minutes before the shower was to begin, I instructed one of my younger sisters on how to make the punch. The end result is a delightful pink colored beverage and many guests comment on how good it tastes!
Everything is ready and the guests begin to arrive. My very pregnant sister is in place near the door to greet and chat with the guests as they arrive. Meanwhile, I am making sure everything is set up and in order. As the guests mingle with one another and sign the guest’s “It’s a Girl” poster, we slowly urge the guests to find a seat. After introductions (name and how you know the pregnant lady of the hour), we invite the guests to help themselves to the hors d’oeuvres and punch. Things get a bit hectic as my sisters and I are making sure none of the food or drink runs out but soon enough it seems that everyone has gotten their food and have found a place to sit.
It is time to let the games begin! While every one is sitting down, I explain the first game “Guess How Many Safety Pins Are in the Jar.” It is a simple game, the guests write down their guess on a piece of paper with their name and each guess goes into a big bowl. The person who guesses closest to the actual number of safety pins wins. The next game is “Guess Mommy’s Tummy Size.” The guests passed around of toilet paper and removed as many squares as they thought would wrap around my sister’s mid section. The final game is “ Baby Unscramble.” The guests are given a list of scrambled baby related words and have one minutes to unscramble as many as they can. The person with the most correct wins!
Next came the gift unwrapping ceremony which involved lots of “Oooing and Awwing.” It took two of us to make sure all the gifts were written down along with the name of the gifter. It took longer than expected to get through all the gifts and cards.
The gift opening ceremony was promptly followed by cake! Thankfully, the cupcakes were a huge hit! I ended making way to many cupcakes and several guests were sent home with cupcakes too! The baby shower came to a close as the guests slowly left. I breathed a sigh of relief; the baby shower was a success!!!
