In Your Baby’s First Hours of Life Valorie discussed what will happen to your little one while you are recovering from the labor and delivery. In Baby, Baby – Look at Me, too! We talked about the fact that being a parent is one of the hardest jobs you’re ever going to do. In Sour Milk? Valorie discussed that breast milk can go sour too. In Why is My Toddler Afraid of Dogs?, we looked at the reasons why toddlers may be afraid of dogs and other pets and how you help them overcome the fear, but also use that fear to teach them.

Monday, October 16

In Stop & Smell the Roses we talked about the fact that we take our senses and the sense of the world for granted. It’s important to recognize this as your toddler is developing, so are their senses. This is the beginning of a series on the five senses and your toddler. In The Sense of Sight – Looking at the World Through Rose-Colored Glasses we discussed developing the sense of sight for your toddler and the exercises that you can do to help your toddler out with. In The Sense of Touch – The World is At Their Fingertips we talked about how the different feelings that your toddler can discover whether it is rough, soft, feathered, scaly or downy. In A New Reason to Bank Your Baby’s Cord Blood there are a number of reasons why storing the cord blood is a great idea for your baby.

In Your Toddler’s Sense of Smell we discussed the fact that your toddler’s nose is nowhere near as discerning as yours and that as it develops, you may notice changes in their appetite and preferences. In The Sense of Taste this is developing and are resistant to changes and that until their sense of smell and taste develops further, you have to be very wary of dangerous substances and more. In The Inner Workings of Your Baby’s Mind: Part I Valorie discussed an article she discovered on the fascinating development going on in your child’s mind.

In Do You Hear What I Hear? The Sense of Sound, your baby has been listening to the world for a long time and that while they can recognize some sounds, they are still developing the skills to filter out all the other noise to hear the individual sounds for what they are. In My Toddler is Antisocial we talked about the fact that toddlers are still learning to be social creatures and that their interactions with other children is what helps to promote that. In Dear Mom & Dads, Nobody is Perfect I wrote a letter to acknowledge that we’re not perfect people and neither are our children. We need to acknowledge this from the get go to protect them and us.

In The Inner Workings of Your Baby’s Mind, Part II Valorie continued her fascinating series on the fact that babies can feel jealousy and that there is a proven scientific evidence with regard to this.

This morning, Valorie treated us to The Inner Workings of Your Baby’s Mind Part III: Social Intellect you’ll discover the range of emotions she has been writing about. This series is a real treat and I would urge you to go back to the previous two articles and read them in order.

Heather Long is 35 years old and currently lives in Wylie, Texas. She has been a freelance writer for six years. Her husband and she met while working together at America Online over ten years ago. They have a beautiful daughter who just turned five years old. She is learning to read and preparing for kindergarten in the fall. A former horse breeder, Heather used to get most of her exercise outside. In late 2004, early 2005 Heather started studying fitness full time in order to get herself back into shape. Her current favorites are the treadmill (she walks up to 90 minutes daily) and doing yoga for stretching. She also performs strength training two to three times a week.
