“The Bachelor”–Beginnings and Endings

Let’s begin with the end… the end of “Bachelor” Matt Grant and Shayne Lamas’ engagement.

C’mon people… did anyone out there think this union was going to lead to a stroll to the altar?

Frankly, I can’t believe it lasted beyond the last rose ceremony. (I have serious doubts that it did.) Was the hook up on the down low or was the short and often-rocky relationship Grant and Lamas shared completely for show?

Personally, I think it’s bad enough that they tried to milk their 15 minutes of fame for as long as they did without having to release statements like this:

“We tried hard to make it work but we realized that we were both heading in different directions,” the two said in a statement to PEOPLE magazine. “We truly care about each other and will remain close friends.”

Cough… gag… ugh… ick!

For the record, 27-year-old Grant and 22-year-old Lamas have been plagued by rumors that neither wanted much to do with the other, but were so engrossed with the fame that came as a result of being on ABC’s “The Bachelor: London Calling” that they simply played out the we’re-still-a-couple charade as long as they possibly could.

Shortly after Grant proposed to Lorenzo Lamas’ daughter in May he reportedly moved into her Century City condo, but that living arrangement lasted for less than a month. By June Grant had moved out citing a need for “space.”

At the time the single British financier said the engagement was still on and that his moving out would make the relationship stronger.

Yeah right.

Wonder if Grant is letting Lamas keep the 2.85-carat platinum and diamond eternity ring he gave her on “The Bachelor” finale or if show producers are cashing in on the doomed hook up?

Surely, you didn’t think Grant footed the bill for the sparkler, did you?

Finally, the beginning I alluded to in the title of this blog speaks to the timing of Grant and Lamas’ break up. The two called it quits just as ABC is getting ready to announce a new “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette.”

Hopefully, show producers will spare us from having to watch Lamas take her pick from 25 single guys.
