We are in the midst of the fall season and so it seems to be a good reason to remind you of the benefits of keeping up or starting a fitness routine.
The first benefit is that you can enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding you, such as the changing leaves, while you venture out on a walk or run. I am always amazed at some of the vibrant colors that can be found in the leaves during this time. And I have to admit that I enjoy the sound of crunching beneath my feet.
But don’t just relegate your walk or run to your neighborhood. This is a great time of the year to discover hiking or park trails. Or take a walk by the lake, where there won’t be as many people around like there are in the summertime.
Biking and skating are other ways to enjoy your surroundings while exercising. But even raking those leaves can burn some calories.
Another benefit to keeping up or starting a fall fitness routine is to prepare your body for that time of year we are most likely to indulge…the holidays. Most people plan to start up their fitness routine after the New Year, but it is best to get started now. Even small efforts can make a difference.
You might not be able to lose 10 pounds over the next couple of months but you could prevent yourself from gaining 10 extra pounds. So even if you do enjoy some sweet treats and hearty meals, you can combat some of that by exercise.
If you aren’t big on getting outdoors, the fall can also be a great time to sign up for an exercise or dance class. Think outside of the box, however. Local gyms aren’t the only place you can find something. YMCA’s or recreational centers may offer low-cost classes.
Fall is a great time of the year to get that body in shape….so either keep up or start up a fitness routine.
