The Benefits of Stength Training

In today’s blog we are going to be looking at the benefits of strength training. This form of exercise is a combination of flexibility exercises and cardio. Although weights are a part of it, there is much more to it.

One of the greatest benefits, physique-wise, is that strength training tones your body, adding definition to your muscles. Overall body strength is the focus.

Strength training consists of movement and non-movement. For instance with movement, this is when you contract your muscles through a range of motion (an example would be weight training). Non-movement strength training is when you contract your muscles against a non-moving object, such as the floor or wall. Pushups are an example.

But there are also important health benefits with strength training. It can prevent and may even reverse muscle and bone loss. This is something that happens over time, so the best way to protect your muscles and bones is to do some strength training.

Some studies have shown that strength training can relieve symptoms of certain diseases and health conditions like type 2 diabetes or arthritis. Hopefully you are starting to see a pattern here—fitness isn’t just about looking great, it is about feeling great.

If you want to improve your posture, coordination and balance, then strength training can help with that as well. If you want to improve your mood and boost your energy level, it will help elevate those endorphins, which make you feel better. Some find that strength training even improves their sleep and can combat depression.

And if you are looking to burn off a lot of calories, strength training can do that. With a balance of flexibility and aerobic exercises, you can boost your metabolism.

Some examples of strength training exercises include weights, hiking, lunges, pushups, jump squats and heel jacks. Overall body fitness is achieved through this form of exercise.

Don’t wait…get started today with some strength training exercises. You will feel so good.
