Who didn’t enjoy books about the Berenstain Bears when they were young? I know I did. Well, parents, there is a television show based on those books. PBS Kids has “The Berenstain Bears” for the young ones of this generation. I am in no way suggesting that the show takes the place of books — you all know that I LOVE to read. I am simply saying that if your children are going to watch television, they might as well watch something wholesome and educational, right?
“The Berenstain Bears” television show is a great tribute to the books by Stan and Jan Berenstain. This show brings all of the characters and their lessons to life. I am sure those of you who read “The Berenstain Bears” books when you were younger remember those lessons. Let’s see: remembering manners (“The Berenstain Bears Forget Their Manners”), eating healthy foods (“The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Junk Food”), do not exclude people (“The Berenstain Bears and No Girls Allowed”), and of course many more. Well, the show teaches these lessons and more.
Just last night, I was watching an episode of “The Berenstain Bears” with my daughter. Brother Bear was put in charge of finding acts for the school talent show. He had found many cubs to perform, but then he kept hearing this great singing voice around school. He was bound and determined to find out who it was to get his “show stopper” act. Come to find out, the singer was actually the school bully, Too-Tall. That lesson pretty much teaches that things aren’t always what they seem. Of course, my daughter is probably too young to understand that lesson just yet, but she likes to watch anyway.
“The Berenstain Bears” can be seen on PBS Kids and PBS Kids Sprout. Check your local listings for channels and show times. For more information about the show, please visit PBSKids.org or PBSParents.org.
