The Best of October in the Marriage Blog

As a pat of our Week in Review series, I wanted to take a long look back at the last four weeks here in the marriage blog and the various articles that have been produced. October saw the introduction of the dating and engagement topics as well as greater expansion of the relationship theme that we do our best to cover here. Our interpersonal relationships are a complicated thing and marriages take a lot of work. In an effort to always hone what we are giving you, I asked a few of my fellow writers to take a look at my pick for the best articles of October and to choose their favorite.

Our favored this pick this month was Sherry’s Those Dreaded In Laws.

The reason most of the jokes and skits are so funny is that they often have some truth to them. We tend to find humor in things with which we can relate. For the most part, such in laws are basically harmless, if occasionally annoying.

Sherry offered some great advice about coping with in-laws and the fact that the respect and kindness is a two way street. It’s important to treat your in-laws with kindness and respect and it’s equally important that they do the same. If they aren’t treating you this way or you feel they aren’t, bring it up with your spouse and try to work together to resolve the issue rather than letting it boil over into a real family disagreement.

This is a great point, all the way around. I’m very fortunate to adore my in-laws, but there are times when I could cheerfully throttle them. It varies and of course, the holidays are a real pressure cooker for most of us. My husband calls this a part of being family. So – what was your favorite story this month?
