The Biggest Loser – Going Strong

Last week, I watched The Biggest Loser and was amazed that the weekly weight loss amounts were still so high. Many of the contestants still lost 5 pounds or more. In the “real” world, losing that amount of weight on a consistent weekly basis would lead me to believe someone was starving. However, on The Biggest Loser, the contestants, who live together in the Biggest Loser house, are on a strict eating and exercise plan that is monitored.

This made me think two things initially. One, why the heck didn’t I sign up for the show? After all, by this point, if I’d lost as much weight per week as the contestants, I’d be fitting into my skinny jeans again. Second, it made me want to know their secrets. How are they losing weight so quickly?

It makes sense I suppose. We could all lose weight quickly if we were able to give up our other obligations (family, work, etc.) for a certain period of time and focus solely on our weight loss. But it’s more than that. It’s motivation.

The contestants on The Biggest Loser took a gamble applying for the show. They were in a desperate state, needing to lose weight for their health and for their lives. By going on the show, they knew they’d be accountable. They knew they’d be in the right environment, void of daily temptations. And they hoped—that this time would be THE time.

I am proud of the contestants and of how far they’ve come in such a short time. I can’t wait for the next episode, to see what happens next. Some huge transformations have taken place on The Biggest Loser—transformations I’d sure like to mimic in my own life. We’ll see what happens this week—will you be watching, too?
