The “Biggest” Wedding of the Season?

If you’re a Sex and the City fan you may be like me (and Libby Pelham, one of the Popular Culture Blog gals): anticipating the movie’s release this week.

Wayne and I faithfully followed all of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha’s adventures during the show’s run, and were sad when the series ended.

But it sure wrapped up nicely, didn’t it? Big and Carrie together, Miranda and Steve happily rearing their child, Charlotte and Harry having finally adopted, and Samantha learning to let love in.

So what will the movie bring?

Judging from the trailers, the main event just might be that Mr. Big and Carrie tie the knot. It appears there’s a proposal for sure, but I’m wondering if Carrie will go through with it. And if she does, will she and Big live happily ever after? (In a place with a big closet for all of her shoes? Something else the trailers suggest.)

Even though I’m rooting for them, I have my doubts.

If you watched the show, Carrie had another man, Aidan, who was wonderful to her. But when things got serious and they moved in together, she flipped out and ended up dumping him.

At the time, I thought it was because she knew who her pea pod mate was and that Aidan, as good as he was, wasn’t hers. The romantic in me (and many others) believed even though she and Big weren’t together, she knew deep in her heart that he was “the one” and one day love would prevail.

But I also thought it had something to do with being too independent and selfish. I think Big can be pretty selfish too, so how would a pair like that truly be able to come together as one? Sure it makes for great fiction to have Big in Paris “rescuing” Carrie, but…It’s not enough to build a life on.

That’s the beauty of it, though. It’s not real life. It is fiction.

Borderline modern day fairy tale, really.

Yet, I’m a sucker for fairy tales. I hope she gets her wedding (ultra-fashionable no doubt), with her best friends by her side and the promise of a happily ever after. (Which might make for Sex and the City: The Sequel material.)
