The Christmas Wedding

While May and June remain ever popular for wedding ceremonies, holidays are also a great time for weddings. Among the popular holidays for wedding ceremonies is Christmas. Christmas is a magical time for many associated with the brightly colored decorations, gift-giving and for Christians around the world, the day Christ was born. What better time to celebrate the union of two families?

If you want to host a Christmas wedding, here are some ideas for how to really personalize the Christmas wedding experience. We’ll talk about some ideas for bridesmaids’ outfits, ceremony decorations, reception area decorating and more.

Bridesmaids

When it comes to hosting your wedding at Christmas, you have a lot of options for not only the wedding dress, but also the outfits your bridesmaids wear. For example, a fur-lined (faux fur of course) cape can make a fantastic accessory for your bridesmaids and it can also help keep them warm for any pictures, transport and more. There is something uniquely comforting about the idea of a warm fur-lined cape. The dresses for the bridesmaids may be done in red or green or a combination thereof, providing a cheerful Christmas accent.

The Ceremony

Getting married in a Church or other venue? Considering decorating with white lights, Christmas garland and wreaths. While some brides may elect for their bridesmaids to wear wreaths of flowers on their heads, another would be to decorate each pew with a wreath. Candles could be done in the shape of Christmas trees or more gaily colored candles in traditional red and green could surround the Unity Candle. Decorations of poinsettias arrayed around the altar or within the bouquet are a neat idea as well.

The Reception

The reception offers you the greatest flexibility for incorporating the theme of Christmas. Your invitations to the wedding may be sent in the form of Christmas Cards. The reception area can be decorated in festive Christmas decorations of gold, silver, green or red. Bows, wreathes and poinsettias can make up delightful centerpieces for the tables.

Instead of a gift table, consider a Christmas tree. Wedding favors may make up part of the Christmas tree decorations. Ornaments, specially decorated for the wedding, may make up part of the bridal party gifts. For the meal at the reception, consider serving a traditional Christmas dinner of turkey and the trimmings. Along with the wedding cake, include decorative Christmas cookies and if you happen to have a lot of children in attendance, consider hiring a Santa to be master of ceremonies – that could be a great deal of fun all the way around.

Remember, this is your wedding – you can decorate it in any theme you choose and make it as Christmas festive or as traditional as you choose.
