The Church Introduces a New Nursery Manual

For the past several years, nursery leaders and Sunbeam leaders have been teaching from the same manual. This hasn’t been a bad thing – our curriculum, as always, is inspired and our children have greatly benefited from the lessons they are taught. This last month, however, the Church released a new manual designed specifically for the nursery.

The manual is entitled “Behold Your Little Ones” and has thirty lessons that are geared specifically to nursery-aged children (eighteen months to three years). In addition to full-color photographs to go along with each topic, the lessons have a line drawing that can be used as a master for a coloring sheet or as another type of visual aid. Each lesson includes tips for using the aids, ideas for activities, and teaching helps as well.

“Behold Your Little Ones” is flexible with the needs of the children. If you want to spend several weeks on one topic that might be of particular need in your class, you can do so. The book is also a wonderful resource for parents in the home.

I had the opportunity to see one of these new books last week, and I was very impressed. As a former nursery coordinator, I could immediately see the benefits that will be derived from this new program. The lessons are more age-appropriate for the nursery children and I loved the pictures and line drawings. It can be so difficult to hold the attention of these small children and anything that can be done to both simplify the lesson and keep the attention of the class is greatly appreciated. I also loved the way the book has been spiral-bound so you can lay it flat while you teach and it won’t bounce closed again.

This manual is available now at the Distribution Center and by going to the website. By the end of the year, it will be available in twenty-seven languages.
