The Crippled Lamb

This is another one to remember in December!

The “Crippled Lamb” movie is based on the book written by Max Lucado, who is known as one of the best Christian authors.

The story revolves around the birth of Jesus and God’s special plan for one lame lamb. The lamb, Joshua was born crippled. He has a difficult time keeping up with the other sheep and lambs in the herd due to his limp.

Joshua would love more than anything to be big and strong and fast like the others. He feels that he was cheated by his disability.

In one attempt to prove himself to the others, Joshua heads out at night to the green pasture so he can be the first one there. However things go bad when Joshua is faced with an angry mountain lion. The shepherd saves him and puts him the barn.

Joshua is upset because he cannot go out to the pasture and graze with the other sheep. However it is discovered that God had bigger plans for the little lamb. That night Joseph and Mary came to the inn but found that there were no rooms. The innkeeper took them to the barn where Joshua and some other livestock were held.

Before long baby Jesus was born. The night was cold and Joseph could not find a blanket to swaddle the baby king in to keep him warm. However Joshua stepped up and nestled his warm wool against the baby savior and kept him warm through the night.

God’s plan for Joshua was seen by the others and later the story was retold by a camel that was also in the barn.

This is a wonderful movie for anytime of the year. However it is great for Christmas and the discussion of the birth of Jesus. I think that it would be great for any child that is also struggling with the “why me” question that Joshua faced.

The movie is animated and lasts about 30 minutes. Therefore it can easily hold the attention of young children. It is great for Sunday school classes and more.
