What is the scariest part of Halloween? It isn’t the horror movies or the things that go bump in the night (unless it is your tummy hitting the side of the bathroom door when you get up to pee). No, it is all of that Halloween candy.
Our family isn’t really big on Halloween. We recognize that the younger kids seem to enjoy it, so we make a little bit of effort. They have costumes and go out trick or treating with friends, collecting candy.
I bought two bags of candy this year. One was a bag of candy corn and minature candy corn like pumpkins. I filled a mason jar with this candy, and it served as a pretty decoration. I also bought another bag of “good” mini candy bars to have on hand for trick or treaters or my own kids and their friends.
Halloween was a bit of a wash this year, literally. It rained. We visited a couple of houses at a nearby development, only, so the candy haul was pretty small. In addition, we got zero trick or treaters at our house, so with the exception of giving some of the candy to my kids’ friends, there was all of that left.
I’m coming off a bad week of not exercising due to massive headaches, and it is amazing how quickly you get out of the routine of it all, including the healthier eating. And those miniature heath bars are calling me. And where one mini health bar would due, well, two or three tend to call even louder.
Still, I did finally work out today, and while it was tough (my heart rate shot up to the 190s), I really enjoyed it and feel that I am getting back on track.
One good thing that is come out of all of this candy, is that I have developed some ideas about how to deal with it all. These methods will get the curse of the Halloween candy out of your life. I’ll be sharing them in an upcoming post, so check back.
